Why must babies be such shallow breathers?

I’m babysitting right now. Emphasis on the baby part. So though he’s big for his age, he’s still real little, and still real dependent.

So when he has a Big Nap and doesn’t stir for in excess of 30 minutes, I can’t help but sneak in (ever so slowly and quietly) and check to see that he’s still breathing. Only it takes me forever to make sure because his little tiny chest only moves a little tiny ways. It’s very challenging. Maybe I should get him a little tiny heart rate monitor (with a little tiny wristwatch…).

If I ever have kids of my own, I’m totally going to be the crazy lady leaning over the crib with a mirror.
